Measurements supporting the global food system - World Metrology Day 2023

Saturday, May 20, 2023, celebrates the World Metrology Day, annual anniversary promoted by the Bureau international des poids et mesures (BIPM) and the Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale (OIML) to commemorate the signing of the Convention of the Metro, occurred in Paris in 1875. The theme of World Metrology Day 2023 is "Measures to Support the Global Food System", to question the growing challenges that climate change and global food distribution impose on metrology. INRiM, in its role of Italian Metrological Institute and as chair of the European Metrology Network on Safe and Sustainable Food (EMN-Food), celebrates the World Metrology Day the 15th of May 2023, by organizing the webinar “Measurements supporting the global food system” with the aim of present some of the most prominent activities in Europe related to the measurements in the area of food.
The topics that have been covered are the followings:
- Initiatives for coordinating metrology in Europe in the agrifood sector and to support food safety and sustainability;
- Ongoing activities towards the development and validation of analytical methods for the characterization of specific food matrices;
- Focus on method development for quantification of relevant food contaminants
